Upload testing

This basically a test to see if uploading from my phone works. This is a picture of my ipa grains steeping.

Catchup

This is to catch everyone up on where I'm at since Christmas.

I've brewed a Red ale from a brewers best kit and it turned out amazing. I gave a few bottles to a work friend and he enjoyed it a lot. Said he drank it back to back with a Killians, and it was 10 fold better. I disagree on the 10 fold part just because Killians is my favorite beer. Anyways, took about 12 bottles to my hockey team for postgame beer and everyone liked it. Haven't received any complaints yet. I call it Redwings Ale but I'm not going to consider that my official one as it was made from a kit. After a few batches, I'm going to start working on my own recipes and when I get a red ale worthy enough for the name, it'll receive it. Sad part is that I had about 48 bottles when I was done, I have 18 left :(

I put an IPA into my fermenter this past Wednesday. Last night, I noticed a bunch of krausen in the airlock. Removed the airlock, cleaned, sanitized and replaced. Within 2 minutes, it was filled back up. I went crazy for a second, then found my bottling siphon tube and used it to make a blowoff tube into a dish of sanitizer. Problem solved. One issue I'm faced with right now is that I'm moving back to Michigan next week and I want that fermenter to sit undisturbed for 3-4 weeks. That's not going to happen. Possible name for the beer, Hoppy Homer IPA. That name is sticking for me and a few other people like it so I think I'll keep that.

I also have a shopping list for things I'd like to buy between each new batch I brew. The list is below:
- Thermocouple to attach to brew pot so I don't have to hold mine.
- Large Spoon since I got a cheap plastic one right now.
- More fermenters so I can make more than 1 at a time.
- More airlocks for more fermenters.
- Glass carboys for secondary fermentation.
- Wort Chiller cause the ice bath is a pain in the ass.
- Ingredients to build my own recipes.
- Kegging materials, kegs, and a kegerator to keep my beer cold.

There's a beer I want to make and call it Hair off the Dogs Back. I'm thinking it will be a stout or maybe a barley wine, but I'm kinda young in the brewing knowledge before I get into barley wines. Just like the name for some reason.

If you're bored by now, stop reading. If not, keep going.

Ok, I'm done.

Entering the blog world

Well, I've never had a reason to start one of these things. Nothing to write about, nothing exciting. Well since Christmas, I've been brewing beer and that to me, is exciting. My fiance got me a brewing kit and I'm on the long road to making tons of beer, hopefully good beer, and eventually when I retire, opening a brewpub. I'm an engineer so my time is very limited. Don't have a lot of free time outside my free time and work. Anyways, hope this blog is entertaining for you.
